of swimming strokes. This year’s instructor is John Leonard,
Executive Director of the ASCA and the editor/writer of The
Stroke School. John also is an active coach, teaching novice
swimmers the strokes and technical elements of the stroke every
day at his SwimFast swim team. Designed to give you “next day”
teaching tools, The Stroke School’s the most widely taken school

CERTIFIED AQUATIC ADMINISTRATOR COURSE (CAA)

The CAA course will be taught in conjunction with
ASCA’s annual World Coaching Clinic in Son Diego, CA. The CAA
course, taken by over 300 ASCA members, teaches the essential
actions of successful administrators as they organize a total
aquatic program, hire and lead the staff, and establish an effective
business environment. The 20 text chapters are supplemented
by PowerPoint presentations and interactive class discussion.
The course will be taught by Dr. Robert Clayton, co-author of

The CPO course is designed for coaches who are looking to the
future with goals of expanding their areas of authority and
increasing their salaries. This is the new, revised CPO course
and includes test, exam, and 5 year certificate. Previous CPO
will require new training and certification with examination.
This course fulfills state and county health department requirements
in 12 states that pool operators be certified by a national
training agency. Twenty other states recommend strongly or are
considering requiring this course for pool operators. Even if
you do not run a pool, this course will allow you to speak the
same language as your pool manager and avoid operational problems.

AQUATIC
INSTRUCTOR COURSE

Supplement your income by conducting the three courses offered
by Aquatic Partners—seasonal pool manager, aquatic program aide,
and aquatic administrator. Approximately 10,000 pool managers
in the U.S. are new each summer, and need the management and
water chemistry education that the Seasonal Pool Manager course
provides. Especially useful is the Pool Profes-sor CD that gives
specific direction for ensuring that the pool water meets health
department standards. The Aquatic Program Aide is a course that
en-ables volunteers to become oriented to a pool so they can
supplement the work of the regular staff. The Aquatic Administrator
course, described above, is aimed at preparing persons for full-time
aquatic administrative po-sitions. The Instructor course, taught

will educate the coach on how to prepare for open water competition
and how to train the athlete properly for this emerging Olympic

This acclaimed course, taught this year by University of Notre
Dame Head Men’s Coach Tim Welsh, teaches athletes the four-part
process to leadership fulfillment in all areas of life. This
is a perfect course for team captains, captains-to-be, and all
other athletes! It deals directly with the tough teen topics
and the interpersonal skills needed to have an impact on the
team in a positive way. Coaches of registered athletes may also
attend (for free!) and sit in the back.
