Level 2 School
John Leonard Tuesday, Sept. 4th 6-9 PM & Wednesday, Sept. 5th 8 AM - 12 Noon
The Stroke School focuses on the construction and correction of swimming strokes. This year’s instructor is John Leonard, Executive Director of the ASCA and the editor/writer of The Stroke School. John also is an active coach, teaching novice swimmers the strokes and technical elements of the stroke every day at his SwimFast swim team. Designed to give you “next day” teaching tools, The Stroke School’s the most widely taken school in the ASCA School series. 10 educational units.

Level 3 School
David C. Salo Wednesday, Sept. 5th 8 AM - 4 PM
The Physiology School focuses on the physical preparation for racing and the planning process for training athletes from age groupers to senior swimmers. 15 educational units.

Level 4 School
Peter Malone Wednesday, Sept. 5th 8 AM - 4 PM
The Administration School delves into all the “dry side” work required by coaches to do a good job in club, high school and college coaching positions. 20 educational units.

Level 5 School
Ira Klein Wednesday, Sept. 5th 8 AM - 4 PM
The Leadership School discusses how you can effectively lead your program, your swimming area, and your athletes, as well as looking at the administration and decision-making process of swimming as a world-wide sport. 25 educational units.

THE CERTIFIED AQUATIC ADMINISTRATOR COURSE (CAA)
Robert Clayton   Monday, Sept. 3rd 8AM – 6 PM
The CAA course will be taught in conjunction with ASCA’s annual World Coaching Clinic in Son Diego, CA. The CAA course, taken by over 300 ASCA members, teaches the essential actions of successful administrators as they organize a total aquatic program, hire and lead the staff, and establish an effective business environment. The 20 text chapters are supplemented by PowerPoint presentations and interactive class discussion. The course will be taught by Dr. Robert Clayton, co-author of the text. How to Write Workouts for Age Group Coaches
Matt Hooper Tuesday, Sept. 4th 8 AM - 12 Noon
Matt Hooper, former national champion in the 1500 free, 100 fly, 200 fly and 400 IM, teaches this course which provides an in-depth and systematic way to tie your training plans to your daily workouts, and your goals for swim competitions. A great course for the young coach. 10 educational units.

Working Successfully with Swimming Parents

Working Successfully with Swimming Parents is designed to address the issue that most often presents stumbling blocks for coaches… of all ages, but particularly the young coach… how to involve swim parents in a constructive partnership for the good of their swimming children. Guy Edson, this year’s instructor, has 30 plus years of experience in working successfully with swimming parents. 12 educational units.

Certified Pool Operator

The CPO course is designed for coaches who are looking to the future with goals of expanding their areas of authority and increasing their salaries. This is the new, revised CPO course and includes test, exam, and 5 year certificate. Previous CPO will require new training and certification with examination. This course fulfills state and county health department requirements in 12 states that pool operators be certified by a national training agency. Twenty other states recommend strongly or are considering requiring this course for pool operators. Even if you do not run a pool, this course will allow you to speak the same language as your pool manager and avoid operational problems. Bring a laptop. 15 educational units.

AQUATIC INSTRUCTOR COURSE

Supplement your income by conducting the three courses offered by Aquatic Partners—seasonal pool manager, aquatic program aide, and aquatic administrator. Approximately 10,000 pool managers in the U.S. are new each summer, and need the management and water chemistry education that the Seasonal Pool Manager course provides. Especially useful is the Pool Profes-sor CD that gives specific direction for ensuring that the pool water meets health department standards. The Aquatic Program Aide is a course that en-ables volunteers to become oriented to a pool so they can supplement the work of the regular staff. The Aquatic Administrator course, described above, is aimed at preparing persons for full-time aquatic administrative po-sitions. Open Water Swimming
USA Swimming Wednesday, Sept. 5th
This course, with Paul Asmuth, Bill Rose and Catherine Vogt, will educate the coach on how to prepare for open water competition and how to train the athlete properly for this emerging Olympic discipline. Cost $0. 10 educational credits.

Leadership for Athletes
Tim Welsh Sunday, Sept. 9th 8 AM - 12 Noon
This acclaimed course, taught this year by University of Notre Dame Head Men’s Coach Tim Welsh, teaches athletes the four-part process to leadership fulfillment in all areas of life. This is a perfect course for team captains, captains-to-be, and all other athletes! It deals directly with the tough teen topics and the interpersonal skills needed to have an impact on the team in a positive way. Coaches of registered athletes may also attend (for free!) and sit in the back.

Personal Organization
Guy Edson Sunday, Sept. 9th 8 AM - 12 Noon
This course is for all those coaches who have too much to do, too little time to do it, and not enough resources to spread over a huge “plate” of work. It will teach coaches a way to work most effectively to get the key work of the employment handled in the best possible way, and make their life “more manageable” and help them become more successful in their professional work. A long time course of the ASCA, it is one of our most popular offerings. 12 educational units.

World Class Beginnings

Certified Stroke Technician
Matt Hooper Sunday, Sept. 9th 8 AM - 3 PM
This course is intended for the learn-to-swim teachers who wish to be optimally educated. It is science based and experimentally proven. It provides teaching skills for freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly, from the world of competitive speed swimmers. The successful attendee will receive a certificate from the ASCA as a Certified Stroke Technician. 10 educational units.

Masters Coaching School

Rick Powers runs one of the largest and most extensive Masters swim teams in the USA (Davis Masters).
