World Clinic 2002 – Las Vegas Hilton Updated July 2, 2002 Monday Sept. 2 – Labor Day Certified Aquatic Manager (CAM) Course The Certified Aquatic Manager (CAM) course is a national certification program to prepare professional Aquatic Managers who job responsibilities are the administration of facilities, staff, budget, marketing and safety and the development of schedules for an agency's programs. Coaches must pre-register for this course and will receive the textbook in advance of the course. The fee includes national registry, certificate, texts, materials and examination. 15 educational units. Instructor: Don van Rossen & Bob Clayton
Tuesday Sept. 3 Age Group Sports Psychology This is one of the best presentations we make. The material is very interesting and the philosophical approach is one of presenting the concepts in simple terms, rather than trying to make it complex. The first half of the course deals with Peak Performance skills - the classical concepts of relaxation, concentration, and visualization and how to teach those concepts to swimmers. The second half of the course presents a topic rarely approached, the teaching of Life Skills. Life Skills are patterns of thoughts and actions that help young people cope with life beyond the swimming pool. The presentation prepares coaches for teaching life skills in a systematic way. 12 educational units. Instructors: John Leonard & Maureen Banks
Level 3 Physiology School This course focuses on developing the training program to maximize the abilities of age group, senior, elite and masters athletes. Short course on basic science, extensive work on developing the long and short term training program. 15 educational units. Instructor: Joel Stager
Level 1-2 Instructors Course Must be a Level 4 or 5 program coach to run sanctioned Level 1 or Level 2 class, and purchase manuals for resale to students. This is a great opportunity to grow coaching education and make money. 5 educational units. Instructor: John Leonard
CAM Director-Instructor Course Designed to prepare and ASCA member with CAM certification and previous aquatic management experience with the background and training to certify Certified Aquatic Managers. A credentialed CAM Course Director-Instructor will have the opportunity for financial remuneration by conducting CAM courses. The course includes: The structure of the CAM program; Course schedule, promotion, evaluation, reporting and certification requirements; The learning process - teaching, communication, and use of instructional aids; Teaching units and outlines. Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Course The CPO course is designed for coaches who are looking to the future with goals of expanding their areas of authority and increasing their salaries. The Certified Pool Operator (CPO) course is designed to provide the skills and knowledge necessary to safely and efficiently operate any aquatic facility. This course fulfills state or county health department requirements in twelve states that pool operators be certified by a national training agency. Twenty other states recommend strongly or are considering requiring this course for pool operators. Even if you do not run a pool, this course will allow you to speak the same language as your pool manager and avoid operational problems. 15 educational units. Age Group Guide to Writing Workouts This presentation details an easy to follow step-by-step process for writing goal-based workouts for novice and age group swimmers. Steps include Goal Setting, Setting Cycle Dates and Objectives, Defining the Components of a Workout, Setting Priorities of the Components Within Each Cycle, Creating a Workout Model, and Writing Daily Workouts. Also presented will be Ten Tips for Running Great Workouts. The purpose of this seminar is to give coaches a practical tool that can be used immediately to write better organized workouts. 5 educational units. Instructor: Guy Edson
Wednesday Sept. 4 Level 1 Foundations The first required course for ASCA Certified coaches, and required for new USA Swimming coaches. Focuses on education and communication skills of coaches and coaching according to athletes' needs. 7 educational units. Instructor: Tom Avischious
Level 2 Stroke School The construction and correction of all four strokes and a survey of turns and starts teaching skills, Biomechanics course with an emphasis on practical coaching of skills and developing successful teaching skills to present material to athletes. 10 educational units. Level 4 Administration School This course is designed for head coaches, or those who aspire to become head coaches and considers club, high school and college positions. It teaches the student how to best manage their team or overall club, develop goals and long range planning and effectively develop and execute budgets for revenue and expenses in their organization. Level 5 Leadership School This course surveys the world of aquatics and its various organizations and their interrelationships, then focuses on how the student can play an effective leadership role in the swimming community. 25 educational units. Instructor: George Block
Dryland Training This course will teach you how to develop a complete training program for your team from Age Group to Senior Swimmers. It explores several different methods and types of training but places emphasis on core strength. Emphasis is also placed on the development of a structured and disciplined program that is safe, progressive, effective, and measurable. 12 educational units. Instructor: Richard Shoulberg

Club Administration Seminar This seminar gives club Boards of Directors and Coaching Staffs tools and ideas that will help the program grow and enhance the working relationship among board members, coaches, volunteers and parents. We start with a long-range planning exercise including details of the budget process and how it is linked philosophically and functionally with the long-range planning process. A working model for program management will be presented hat will place the coach as CEO of dynamic organization. It also demonstrates how to use the resources of its membership and community through effective communication, publicity and delegation.
