Education

  • Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering/ Biomechanics and Motor Control at Northwestern University (1992-1996, 1998-1999).
  • CSCS, Certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association and a Strength and Conditioning Specialist, 2001.
  • B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University (1988-1992), with emphasis on musculoskeletal biomechanics.

Athletic Experience

  • Swam competitively at Wilmington Aquatic Club in the Middle Atlantic LSC and at Boston University.
  • Worked as a Research Assistant at the United States Olympic Committee Sport Science Division - Biomechanics.
  • Worked with multiple sports, but developed projects specifically for USA Triathlon, USA Short Track Speed Skating, USA track and Field, and USA Rowing.

Job Description

  • Involved in developing computer simulations of swimming strokes, using advanced computer modeling techniques, to optimize propulsion and minimize drag.
  • Provide service to the National Team and USA Swimming in general. The biomechanical services that are offered include filming/stroke analysis in the pool and flume, service testing and providing educational presentations.
  • Develop educational materials for both coaches and athletes in the area of biomechanics. We are developing a wide range of materials to assist in coaching education and putting together an athlete workbook with exercises athletes can fill out to learn about their strokes.
