After
placing 3rd at the 1988 US Olympic Trials, I went on to earn a master
degree in nutritional sciences with a concentrated effort in Sports
Nutrition. I started my own sports nutrition consulting business called
Nutrition Intuition to educate young athletes about sports nutrition for
improved performance'. After several years working as a consultant, I
accepted the position of Sports Nutritionist at the United States Naval
Academy. 1 use my athletic and educational background to provide proper
nutrition education to enhance performance for the future leaders of the
Navy's submarine fleet, surface warfare fleet, flight school, special ops,
Seals training and Marines.
Nutrition
for a Multi-Day Championship Meet
Learn how to feed your athletes during a championship meet. A season's
worth of training comes down to one meet. The physical and mental demands
of a championship meet are difficult enough for any swimmer, but how many
times have you watched your athlete hit the wall at the big meet?
Nutrition leading up to and during the meet can ultimately determine the
outcome. Learn what your athletes should eat prior to warm-up, after
warm-up, immediately after a morning swim, between prelims and finals, and
hour before the swim at finals, and what to eat after finals to help
prepare them to do it again the next day.
Nutrition
for Training Age Group Swimmers
Many athletes request a meeting the week prior to the big meet but
proper nutrition can have a larger impact during training. Nutrition can
be divided into three topics: Type of Calories, Timing of Calories, and
Total Amount of Calories. Help educate your athletes use this information
to learn how to stop feeding fat cells and help feed muscle cells for
better performance.
