 ASCA Program at the USA Swimming Olympic Trials
July 7 - July 13, 2004

Long Beach, CA

 

The American Swimming Coaches Association will be providing an opportunity for coaches, parents, and swimmers attending this year Olympic trials to spend some time attending short educational clinics with some of the top coaches in the country giving presentations. The program will provide something for everyone and will help fill in a couple of hours between prelims and finals (1pm - 4 pm.)  We will be located in the Seaside B room in the Long Beach convention center adjacent to the Pool. The cost per session will be $20 or $100 for all the sessions.

Wednesday 07/07 (1pm - 4pm) ___________________________________________ 
     
Distance Training School - presenter Peter Banks, Cost $20
     
The talk deals with the important principles of developing a distance based program
      for age group swimmers. The talk will include ideas on planning a season, looking
      at long-term goals to be successful, and analyzing the test sets workouts that are
      important to develop this type of program.


Thursday 07/08  (1pm - 4pm) _________________________________________
      Age Group Dryland Training
- presenter Guy Edson, Cost $20
     
This talk will go through the importance of a dryland program;  the types of 
      equipment needed, time, and the seasonal plan required for a successful program.

Friday 07/09  (1pm - 4pm) ____________________________________________________

      Effective Training in the Short High School Season - presenter - Guy Edson, Cost $20
     
This will cover the important principles that a coach in a high school program would need 
      to include in their plan to maximize the high school season.

Saturday 07/10  (1pm - 4pm)___________________________________________________
     What Parents Need to Know about Successful Age Group Swimming Careers for 
     Their Children
- presenter Peter Banks, Cost $20

     This talk will look at what advice a coach would give to parents of young successful 
     athletes so as to help them look at their long tem future in the sport. The do's and 

     dont's of being an age group parent.

 

Sunday 07/11  (1pm - 4pm)_______________________________________________  
      Team Captains Course - presenter John Leonard, Cost $20
     
This is developing into one of our most successful courses for young athletes that wish to 

      learn the important principles of leadership so that they can take on a more active role 
      in this area of their team or club.

Monday  07/12  (1pm - 4pm)_______________________________________________
     
The ASCA Stroke School - presenter John Leonard, Cost $20
     
This will be an abbreviated look at all four strokes. This course normally is an 8 hour 
      course but will focus on the critical areas of the modern stroke technique of the worlds
      top swimmers.


Tuesday 07/13  (1pm - 4pm)_______________________________________________________

      Coaches' Discussion Group - topics to be announced
     
Open forum type program with time allocated for coaches to discuss important issues 
      related to our sport.

Daily 4-5 pm   ___________________________________________________________________
