Dick Hannula - Biography of Coaching 1. 32 years Boys' High School Swim Coach, Tacoma, WA. At Wilson High School, he had the longest high school undefeated seasons on record. 323 consecutive meets without a loss (1959-1983) including 24 consecutive boys' Washington State High School Swimming Championship Meets. 2.
Founded Tacoma Swim Club in 1955. 3. Coached 4 USA Olympic Team members, including Kaye Hall, Olympic and World Record Holder in the 100 m backstroke, 2 gold and 1 bronze Olympic medals in 1968. Coached 5 World University Games swimmers, including 3 gold medal winners, Pan American Games and World Championship swimmers, several USA National Champions, and American Record holders. 4. 1980 - National High School Swim Coach of the Year. 5. 1980 - National Interscholastic Swim Coaches' Association's National Collegiate and Scholastic Trophy. 6. 1982 - National Interscholastic Swim Coaches' Association's Hall of Fame Award. 7. 1987 - Inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame. 8. 1994 - Inducted into the Washington State Sports Hall of Fame. 9. Coached the following USA National Swim Teams in international competition: 1973 - England and Bulgaria; 1975 - Pan American Games in Mexico City; 1976 - Egypt; 1978 -Taiwan; 1985 - Pan Pacific Meet in Tokyo, Japan. 10.
