FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 11, 1999 RECREONICS, INC., OFFERS CHALLENGE AWARD TO SWIMAMERICA TEACHERS Fort Lauderdale -- Recreonics, Inc., is announcing its Challenge Award which will give five students $1,000 each. Recreonics, Inc., will award five, $1,000 scholarships to SwimAmerica teachers who are attending college, or will be attending college, and meet certain criteria. Recreonics, Inc., a swimming pool and pool equipment company, has established guidelines for the scholarship selection that are challenging yet achievable for the prospective recipients. The criteria is as follows: 1. Recipients must be accepted to, or currently a student at an accredited institution of higher learning. 2. Recipients must have maintained a grade point average of 3.0 or higher at their collegiate or high school course work. 3. Recipients must have been an active SwimAmerica teacher (coach) for 18 months. 4. Recipients must complete an essay of 1200-1500 words. 5. Recipients must have some activity whereby they volunteer their time to a local community service program. 6. Recipients must submit a letter of recommendation. 7. Recipients must acknowledge that they are free of substance and alcohol abuse and that they do not have any past arrest records. SwimAmerica National Director Karen Leonard said, "This is a magnificent contribution on the part of Recreonics, to reward young men and women who choose to work in SwimAmerica, to reduce the drowning rate of American children. Recreonics, Inc., not only is an outstanding aquatics company, but they have repeatedly demonstrated their commitment to helping Americas young people improve their lives. We are very grateful for the Challenge scholarships by Recreonics, Inc." The scholarships will be awarded during the 1999 Olympic Head Coaches Reunion Dinner during the 1999 American Swimming Coaches World Clinic in San Diego, California on September 11, 1999. ###
