The
American Swimming Coaches Association Fellows program is getting
underway for 2006.
Each year
ASCA selects a small group of coaches to serve a year of fellowship.
ASCA Fellows are typically young coaches with a passionate
interest in improving American swimming.
The fellowship
year is a year of education and action. This year, the education
begins with an intensive “clinic-within-the-clinic” during
the annual ASCA World Clinic. The 2006 World Clinic is scheduled
for September 6-10 in Washington, DC. The Fellows clinic-within-the-clinic
will begin on Monday night (9/4) and run through Wednesday
(9/6), with possible additional sessions later on in the week.
The action
portion of the program consists of working on and completing
a Fellows project. Each fellow, under the direction of the
ASCA staff and Board of Directors, completes a project during
the Fellows year, in an area of passionate interest. Ideally,
the project involves focusing on an area of swimming in which
the coach is committed to making a difference and making things
better. The Fellows project is ASCA advocacy in miniature.
It is thinking globally and acting globally.
The overall
goal of the Fellows program is to identify and train coaches.
ASCA seeks coaches who are committed to improving American
swimming both on and off the pool deck, to assist them in
become the future leaders of our sport.
Applications
may be obtained by contacting Matt Hooper,
via phone at 1-800-356-2722 or
